The European Central Bank published the disaggregated financial statement of the Eurosystem with a reference date of 3 October 2025, setting out assets and liabilities by national central bank, the European Central Bank, and consolidation adjustments. Total assets and liabilities were EUR 16,209,218 million, with consolidation adjustments of EUR -241,642 million. On the asset side, securities of euro area residents denominated in euro amounted to EUR 4,168,246 million, including EUR 3,865,561 million held for monetary policy purposes, while gold and gold receivables were EUR 128,546 million and foreign-currency claims on non-euro area residents were EUR 494,239 million. On the liability side, banknotes in circulation were EUR 1,591,429 million, and liabilities to euro area credit institutions related to monetary policy operations were EUR 2,768,366 million, largely reflecting the deposit facility (EUR 2,592,478 million) and current accounts covering the minimum reserve system (EUR 175,888 million). The release notes that the “capital and reserves” item can be negative for individual national central banks because accumulated losses carried forward are included under that heading.
