The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued a public alert about a fraudulent website related to Bank of Communications (Hong Kong) Limited, following a bank press release that was reported to the HKMA. The HKMA reminded customers that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing users to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS, including via embedded hyperlinks. The HKMA advised anyone who provided personal information or conducted financial transactions through or in response to the website to contact the bank using the contact information in the bank’s press release and to report the matter to the Police.
