The European Parliament published its plenary agenda setting out a vote at noon on its position for the EU’s 2028-2034 multiannual financial framework, including the amounts MEPs want allocated to each EU funding programme. Once Parliament adopts its position, it expects to be ready to start negotiations with the Council on the regulation that will set the budget’s structure and main figures, which requires Parliament’s consent. Budget-related items also include a joint debate with Budget Commissioner Piotr Serafin on how the Commission and other EU institutions managed the 2024 EU budget, with a vote on whether to grant discharge scheduled for the following day. MEPs will also vote on Parliament’s priorities for the 2027 budget, the 2024 annual report on protecting the EU’s financial interests, the 2024 annual report on the activities of the European Investment Bank, and an own-initiative report calling for minimum standards for financial influencers. A press conference with Parliament President Roberta Metsola and lead MEPs is scheduled for 14:00 after the vote on the 2028-2034 budget position.
