The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) published a public alert referencing bank press releases on reported scams involving fraudulent websites, fake internet banking login screens, phishing emails and other frauds. The alert covers The Bank of East Asia, Shanghai Commercial Bank, Chong Hing Bank, Chiyu Banking Corporation, Fubon Bank (Hong Kong), China CITIC Bank International and Bank of Communications (Hong Kong) in relation to fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens, Ant Bank (Hong Kong) in relation to phishing instant messages, and Bank Julius Baer & Co. Ltd. in relation to fraudulent websites. The HKMA reminded the public that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS.
