The Italian Institute for Insurance Supervision (IVASS) ordered the cessation of insurance intermediation carried out via three websites that it says are offering insurance services without authorisation, with obscuring by internet providers operating in Italy under way and potentially requiring several days for technical reasons. The sites named are www.elettomotori.com (and elettomotori.com), www.polizza.assicurazioniautopiufaciledicosi.it (and polizza.assicurazioniautopiufaciledicosi.it), and www.brokercompanyitalia.com. The cease orders are published in IVASS’s “Let’s defend ourselves from scams” section, and the cumulative number of websites subject to cease orders since IVASS began exercising its blocking power in November 2023 has risen to 312. IVASS also reiterated consumer checks for offers made online, by phone or via messaging apps, particularly short-duration motor third party liability policies, including verifying that insurers and intermediaries are authorised and consulting the lists and registers available on the IVASS website, including the Single Register of Insurance Intermediaries (RUI).
