The Central Bank of Montenegro published an update on meetings with senior World Bank officials during the IMF/World Bank Annual Meetings, focusing on payment system modernisation and confirming that the TIPS Clone project is progressing to plan with a scheduled launch date of 20 July 2026. Talks with the World Bank’s Vice President for Europe and Central Asia and its Executive Director centred on implementing Montenegro’s 2025–2029 Country Partnership Framework and on priorities including accelerating structural reforms, strengthening institutional capacity, and continuing investment in infrastructure, the energy transition and human capital. The Governor highlighted the World Bank’s support for the central bank’s payments reform programme, with TIPS Clone described as a European-interoperable instant payments system intended to enable real-time transactions. The next phase of payment system modernisation was framed as supporting full implementation of European standards in payments and strengthening Montenegro’s integration into the single European financial and economic market.
