The central bank invited Column Bank to help establish correspondent banking relationships with banks in Tajikistan, including by opening direct correspondent accounts. The meeting, facilitated with the support of Tajikistan’s Embassy in the United States and the US Business Council, also covered opportunities for joint investment projects and reforms in Tajikistan’s banking system. The National Bank said the legal framework and necessary conditions for correspondent relations are in place and that strict compliance with international standards, including Financial Action Task Force recommendations on anti-money laundering, is ensured. Both sides expressed hope that the discussions would support closer banking-sector cooperation between Tajikistan and the United States and lead to new financial links.
