The Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten (CBCS) hosted a symposium in Sint Maarten titled “Better Data, Better Decisions,” positioning reliable economic statistics as a prerequisite for effective research and policy work. The event formed part of a series of research-focused symposiums and aimed to raise awareness of how balance-of-payments statistics and other datasets underpin the central bank’s analysis. Government representatives, the business community and regional stakeholders participated, with contributions from the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank and IEDOM. CBCS also presented empirical research on Sint Maarten’s foreign direct investment performance and regional integration, and discussed plans to improve data quality through collaboration with the Department of Statistics and other partners, including ongoing discussions with IEDOM on data exchange to improve measurement of cross-border flows and gross domestic product. A further symposium is planned during the November Monetary Studies Conference.
