Bank Indonesia published an account of its policy priorities at the first BRICS Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting under India’s 2026 presidency. Deputy Governor Filianingsih Hendarta called for practical cooperation on local currency use and cross-border payment connectivity to strengthen resilience to external shocks, while reflecting each country’s readiness and circumstances. Bank Indonesia also urged BRICS members to build domestic artificial intelligence research and capacity so they can become innovators and contributors rather than only users. Together with Indonesia’s Ministry of Finance, it advocated digital public infrastructure, wider climate finance access for developing countries, cooperation on cyber and climate risks, and a stronger role for developing countries in global economic governance, including through a strengthened International Monetary Fund.
