The Thailand Securities and Exchange Commission has imposed civil sanctions on 18 interconnected offenders for manipulating the price or trading volume of META Corporation Public Company Limited shares. They must pay a combined THB 172,565,769 in civil penalties, compensation and investigative expenses, with individual securities and derivatives trading suspensions ranging from 11 to 51 months and director or executive bans ranging from 22 to 102 months. The conduct occurred over three periods from February 2018 to February 2020. The offenders coordinated orders in similar quantities, at similar prices and within close time intervals, including large orders that impeded other buyers, purchases intended to raise the share price and orders placed shortly before market close to increase the closing price. They also traded large volumes among themselves through big lot transactions, misleading the public and causing META's price or trading volume to deviate from normal market conditions. The trading suspensions and management bans will take effect when each offender signs a consent letter. If an offender declines to settle the case, the SEC will ask the public prosecutor to seek the maximum applicable civil sanctions in the Civil Court.
