The European Banking Authority updated its European Union list of other systemically important institutions (O-SIIs), based on year-end 2024 data. The publication provides each identified institution’s overall score under the EBA Guidelines and the capital buffer rate set by the relevant authorities, and is also available via a data visualisation tool. The EBA Guidelines use size, importance, complexity and interconnectedness to identify O-SIIs, while allowing national authorities to apply supervisory judgement to include institutions not automatically captured by the criteria. The update lists 175 banks identified as systemically important in 2024 at the highest level of consolidation in each country, with buffer rates ranging from 0.25% to 3%; further jurisdiction-specific information on rationale, optional indicators, buffer decisions and phase-in implementation dates is disclosed by the relevant authorities, which retain responsibility for O-SII identification under the Capital Requirements Directive.
