The Central Bank of the Philippines used a National ID Forum to press for broader use of the National ID when opening financial accounts and to align efforts to integrate both physical and digital National IDs into customer verification processes. A key recommendation from the discussions was to expand the use of the Philippine Statistics Authority’s National ID Authentication Services (NIDAS), which enables real-time identity verification using biometric and demographic data across plastic card, printed paper and digital formats. The forum convened the central bank, the Philippine Statistics Authority, the Department of Information and Communications Technology, the National Privacy Commission, the Office of the Special Assistant to the President on Economic and Investment Affairs, the World Bank, Korea Credit Information Services and BSP-supervised financial institutions to share implementation challenges, progress and practical experiences.
