In a statement marking International FIU Day on 9 June, the Egmont Group of Financial Intelligence Units highlighted Financial Intelligence Units as the central points in each jurisdiction for receiving, analysing, and disseminating financial intelligence to support investigations and disrupt illicit financial flows. It presented the observance as recognition of FIUs' role in safeguarding financial integrity and strengthening international cooperation against money laundering, terrorist financing, and related financial crime. The day commemorates the Egmont Group's founding at the Egmont Palace in Brussels on 9 June 1995. The group said FIUs now operate in an environment shaped by technological change, global connectivity, and more sophisticated criminal networks, and are responding by strengthening analytical capabilities, using data-driven approaches, and deepening cooperation with law enforcement, prosecutors, regulators, the private sector, and peer FIUs across borders. It also reiterated its role in supporting secure information exchange, expertise sharing, and cooperation among member FIUs.
