The Bank of Italy published financial accounts for the second quarter of 2026, showing that Italian households acquired a net EUR 23.9 billion of financial assets while their financial liabilities rose by EUR 17.1 billion. Nonfinancial corporations recorded larger increases on both sides of their balance sheets, with financial assets up EUR 29.2 billion and liabilities up EUR 38.8 billion. Household acquisitions centered on asset management products at EUR 15.4 billion, shares and other equity at EUR 6.7 billion, and debt securities at EUR 5.6 billion. These were partly offset by reductions of EUR 2.1 billion in other financial assets and EUR 1.7 billion in deposits. The rise in household liabilities mainly reflected EUR 10.2 billion in other financial liabilities, chiefly trade and tax debts, and EUR 5.8 billion in bank loans. For nonfinancial corporations, deposits increased by EUR 11.4 billion, while purchases of shares and other equity reached EUR 9.4 billion. The EUR 38.8 billion increase in liabilities included EUR 14.3 billion in other financial liabilities, mainly trade and tax debts, EUR 12.1 billion in loans, EUR 7.2 billion in net debt securities issuance and EUR 5.2 billion in shares and other equity.
