The Algeria Market Authority (COSOB) organized a training and awareness day for its supervised entities and staff on targeted financial sanctions imposed by the United Nations Security Council. The event formed part of COSOB’s work on preventing money laundering, terrorist financing and the financing of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. The session covered the legal framework for international sanctions, the current sanctions adopted by the United Nations Security Council, the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the mechanism for applying fund-freezing and seizure measures under Security Council resolutions. It was led by COSOB’s director of studies and head of its anti-money laundering, counterterrorist financing and proliferation financing unit, together with an official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ directorate general for multilateral relations. The program ended with an interactive discussion and questions from participants.
