The Central Bank of Nicaragua reported that the Monthly Economic Activity Index rose 0.9% in May 2026 from a year earlier. Growth reached 3.9% in January-May, while the annual average increase was 5.3%. On a seasonally adjusted basis, activity fell 0.4% from April and rose 1.7% year over year. Energy and water recorded the strongest annual growth at 21.1%, followed by construction and hotels and restaurants at 12.5% each. Declines included fishing and aquaculture at 29.0%, mining and quarrying at 16.8%, and manufacturing at 11.1%, reflecting lower output across products including gold, sugar, textiles and petroleum derivatives.
