The Central Bank of Costa Rica’s Board of Directors has appointed Leonor Cuevillas Vallejos as a member of the National Council for Supervision of the Financial System (Conassif), effective 12 February 2025 for a five-year term. The Bank stated that Cuevillas meets the legal eligibility requirements and brings experience in risk management across financial intermediation, securities market and insurance activities, including roles as a risk director and as a member of risk committees at systemic financial institutions. The appointment follows a selection process launched in December 2023 that drew more than 80 applicants, with candidates assessed against technical knowledge, professional experience and legal impediments and incompatibilities, and prequalified candidates subjected to tests on leadership, integrity and strategic thinking; the Board interviewed three female finalists on 10 February 2025 to support greater gender balance in Conassif’s composition.
