The Bank of Mauritius announced that Governor Dr Rama Krishna Sithanen has been named co-winner of the 2025 “Central Bank Governor of the Year” award conferred by African Leadership Magazine under the African Business Leadership Awards. The magazine’s selection process combined public nominations, editorial screening, a global public vote, and a final assessment using verifiable metrics, with the final score weighted 65% to the online poll and 35% to verified documentation on institutional growth, innovation, sustainability, and measurable outcomes. In its citation, African Leadership Magazine highlighted actions since Dr Sithanen took office in November 2024, including measures to address policy imbalances, absorb excess liquidity, and stabilise the Mauritian rupee through monetary tightening, as well as initiatives on sustainable finance such as establishing a Climate Change Centre, developing a national green taxonomy, and supporting more than 400 clean energy projects. It also referenced a bilateral currency agreement with the Reserve Bank of India and a gender-balanced reconstitution of the Bank’s Board and Monetary Policy Committee. Dr Sithanen said he was honoured by the award and shared the recognition with colleagues at the Bank, adding that it would continue pursuing its mandate of price stability, orderly and balanced economic development, and financial stability.
