The Reserve Bank of India has issued a circular instructing banks to migrate their existing internet domains to the exclusive “.bank.in” domain, operationalising the measure previously announced to help combat increasing fraud in digital payments and strengthen cybersecurity. The “.bank.in” domain will be implemented through the Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology, which has been authorised by the National Internet Exchange of India under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to serve as the exclusive registrar. The circular applies to all commercial banks, primary (urban) co-operative banks, state co-operative banks, and district central co-operative banks. Banks are advised to begin the registration and migration process and complete it as early as possible, and in any case no later than 31 October 2025.
