The Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market of the Republic of Kazakhstan has warned that phone fraud remains a common method for stealing funds and obtaining fraudulent loans. It highlighted increasing use of schemes in which criminals impersonate bank, law enforcement or government personnel and pressure victims to use a second phone or tablet, enable video or screen sharing, access mobile banking and approve transactions or biometric identification under the caller’s direction. Banks and public authorities do not request verification codes, passwords, full card details or CVV codes, nor do they instruct customers to transfer money to a “safe” account, install applications, share their screen or conduct transactions through a second device. Customers should end suspicious calls, independently contact their bank through official channels and monitor accounts and credit histories. Anyone who has disclosed information or transferred funds should immediately contact their bank, block cards and mobile banking access, preserve evidence, report the caller’s number through 116 and notify law enforcement.
