The Brazilian Superintendence of Private Insurance (SUSEP) participated in the 22nd General Assembly and 29th Annual Conference of the Association of Lusophone Insurance Supervisors (ASEL) in Maputo, Mozambique, presenting recent Brazilian supervisory and legislative developments and contributing to discussions on sector risks and supervisory approaches. During the General Assembly, ASEL members elected governing bodies for 2025/2026 and approved the 2024/2025 report and accounts and the 2025/2026 activity plan, alongside country updates on 2024 developments and challenges in insurance and pension funds. SUSEP highlighted 2024 expansion in the markets it supervises, the new insurance contract legal framework (Law No. 15,040/2024), and updates to the National System of Private Insurance framework via Complementary Law No. 213/2025, as well as recent SUSEP and National Council of Private Insurance (CNSP) regulatory changes focused on innovation and sustainability. The extension of SUSEP’s supervisory perimeter to insurance cooperatives and mutual property protection drew particular interest, and the conference also covered a study on insurance distribution across ASEL jurisdictions and panels on oil and gas-related sustainable insurance, climate change and artificial intelligence.
