The Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo’s Governor Ahmet Ismaili met David Oberhuber, Director of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in Kosovo, to review developments in the financial sector and the central bank’s reforms to strengthen the legal and regulatory framework, alongside initiatives on financial inclusion, access to finance and financial education. The meeting covered the central bank’s pre-application process for membership in the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) with the European Commission and its project to advance and modernise the payment system as part of its strategic objectives. Cooperation with German regulatory authorities was also highlighted, including work with the Deutsche Bundesbank on managing Kosovo’s international reserves and support within the Eurosystem, and GIZ Kosovo’s contribution to regulatory reform and institutional capacity building. Both sides discussed options to continue cooperation through concrete projects focused on digitising payments and introducing automated cash management technologies used by Eurosystem central banks, including efforts linked to expanding financial inclusion, combating counterfeit currency and strengthening financial education.
