The European Payments Council (EPC) has published guidelines setting out a recommended “Federated Approach” to increase adoption of the SEPA Request-to-Pay (SRTP) scheme. The approach is intended to provide a future-proof pathway and support a smooth, progressive transition for existing intra-community initiatives towards the full SRTP scheme, while enabling cross-community interoperability and reachability. The guidelines recognise that intra-community initiatives already exist and clarify that convergence should be achieved by standardising governance of SRTP’s technical and functional components. At the same time, business aspects are left to the discretion of the respective communities, allowing locally relevant use cases and commercial models to continue to develop.
