At a media briefing on the Securities and Futures Commission’s Strategic Action Plan, Chairman Dr Kelvin Wong outlined three priorities for developing Hong Kong’s capital markets: strengthening the renminbi and fixed income and currency ecosystem, deepening mutual market access with the Mainland, and improving market efficiency, inclusiveness, quality and infrastructure. The plan supports Hong Kong’s role in connecting international capital with Mainland markets while preserving investor protection and market integrity. The SFC aims to make Hong Kong a platform for renminbi asset allocation and risk management, supported by more renminbi denominated products, hedging tools and wider use of renminbi assets as collateral in market infrastructure. It will also enhance existing Connect schemes and prepare for REIT Connect, with the aim of translating access into broader participation and deeper liquidity. Targeted reforms will seek to remove unnecessary duplication and institutional barriers without weakening disclosure standards, safeguards or market resilience.
