The Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo reported that Governor Ahmet Ismaili reviewed financial-sector conditions and strategic reform progress with International Monetary Fund Deputy Managing Director Bo Li during the 2026 IMF and World Bank Group Annual Meetings. Ismaili described Kosovo’s banking sector as well capitalized, liquid and stable, and highlighted progress under the central bank’s 2024-2028 Strategic Plan and recommendations from IMF assessments and technical assistance missions. The reform agenda centers on expanding risk-based supervision across the financial sector, strengthening macroprudential, systemic-risk and crisis-management frameworks, and improving institutional governance, analytical capacity and macroeconomic forecasting. The discussion builds on a more detailed review with IMF staff of supervisory review processes, emergency liquidity assistance, crypto-asset oversight and crisis-management coordination. The central bank and IMF reaffirmed plans to deepen technical assistance, knowledge exchange and institutional cooperation. The central bank also confirmed that it has fulfilled its contribution to establishing and operationalizing the IMF Regional Technical Assistance Center for Southeast Europe, and Ismaili confirmed his participation in its official inauguration.
