The Central Bank of Latvia's Supervision Committee has licensed SIA Fibonatix to operate as a payment institution, authorising it to provide payment acceptance services. The company plans to offer those services to merchants. Following the decision, Latvia has nine licensed payment institutions, 11 licensed electronic money institutions and one registered electronic money institution. The central bank has issued 12 licences to financial market participants this year. For prospective applicants, the central bank pointed to its licensing guides and pre-licensing consultations, which cover documentation, review timelines, the applicable legal framework and an initial assessment of compliance with regulatory requirements.
