The Hong Kong Monetary Authority published monetary statistics showing that deposits with authorized institutions rose 0.9% in July 2026, while total loans and advances increased 0.2%. In the year to end-July, total deposits grew 5.8% and loans and advances rose 6.6%. HKD and foreign currency deposits each increased 0.9% during July. RMB deposits rose 2.9% to RMB 1,125.4 billion, while cross-border trade settlement remittances increased to RMB 1,383.7 billion from RMB 1,277.7 billion in June. Loans for use in Hong Kong, including trade finance, declined 0.3%, while loans for use outside Hong Kong rose 1.7%. The HKD loan-to-deposit ratio fell to 70.7% from 71.5%. HKD M2 and M3 increased 1% in July, while total M2 and M3 each rose 1.1%. Compared with a year earlier, total M2 and M3 were both 10.2% higher. The authority cautioned that transient funding, business and investment factors can make monthly monetary statistics volatile.
