The Caribbean Development Bank has approved a USD 100,000 grant to the CARICOM Private Sector Organization to support the first phase of a feasibility study on establishing a regional stock exchange for participating states of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy. The study will assess models for integrating fragmented Caribbean capital markets, with a focus on improving liquidity, lowering financing costs and expanding businesses’ access to capital. The work will analyze market demand across CARICOM member states, identify legal and regulatory requirements, evaluate international exchange models and consult public and private sector stakeholders. It will also examine financing access for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, women-led businesses, youth entrepreneurs and other underserved groups. The Caribbean Development Bank and Inter-American Development Bank are supporting implementation, with participating institutions contributing USD 324,700 toward Phase I. The findings will be presented at a regional symposium to inform decisions by policymakers, regulators, private sector representatives and development partners on further capital market integration.
