The Financial Action Task Force of Latin America (GAFILAT) held work and training sessions for the National Coordinations of its member countries in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, including a workshop on money laundering and terrorist financing (ML/TF) national risk assessments to support a risk-based approach and effective AML/CFT systems. The programme used practical exercises to address key challenges in conducting national risk assessments and included discussion of GAFILAT’s regional risk analysis approach based on its accumulated experience. With National Coordinators and competent authorities present, the sessions also presented and discussed, at a strategic level, documents linked to changes introduced to the standard ahead of the fifth round of mutual evaluations and the role of statistics in mutual evaluation processes; GAFILAT reported favourable outcomes and noted the activities as part of its annual strategic plan.
