The State Bank of Vietnam reported that Governor Nguyễn Thị Hồng led a delegation to the Bank for International Settlements’ (BIS) regular meetings in Basel, Switzerland on 8–9 March 2026, participating in the Asian Consultative Council (ACC), the Global Economy Meeting and the Governors’ Plenary. As ACC Chair for the 2024–2026 term, Hồng chaired discussions on the application of artificial intelligence in the banking system, opportunities to advance financial services innovation, and emerging risks linked to model governance, data security and technology dependence, with BIS management subsequently sending a letter commending her chairing of the meeting. On the sidelines, bilateral meetings with Banque de France Governor François Villeroy de Galhau and Monetary Authority of Singapore Managing Director Chia Der Jiun covered global economic and financial conditions, central bank policy operations amid recent geopolitical and geo-economic developments, and potential areas for closer cooperation including banking supervision and the development of international financial centres. The delegation also held technical-level exchanges with BIS departments on monetary policy operations, BIS principles and guidance for central banks, and the role and market segment of small-scale cooperative credit institutions within the broader credit institution system.
