The Central Bank of Iraq said Governor Nizar Nasser Hussein met managers and board chairs of exchange companies to discuss developing the sector and strengthening its role in supporting the national economy. In the meeting, he signaled that the next phase will include new initiatives and activities aimed at broadening exchange companies’ business lines and creating new revenue opportunities as part of a wider effort to reactivate the sector. The discussion also focused on cooperation to address challenges and develop the non-bank financial sector. The central bank linked the planned initiatives to higher compliance and governance standards, saying adherence to international standards is a core condition for improving the sector’s efficiency, strengthening confidence in it, and enabling firms to expand their activities and services. The governor also called for regular follow-up meetings with the sector.
