Peru’s Superintendence of Banking, Insurance and AFP closed the premises where the informal entity “Oficina de Seguros América” had been operating in Trujillo (La Libertad), after finding it was habitually marketing multiple types of insurance and intermediating their placement without authorisation. The authority determined the entity was not registered in the “Register of insurance intermediaries and auxiliaries and cross-border insurance activities”, breaching the prohibition set out in paragraphs 2, 3 and 4 of Article 11 of Law No. 26702. The closure covered premises located at Av. América Sur No. 589, Santa Rosalía, Trujillo, and was carried out with support from the National Police of Peru and in the presence of a notary. The SBS urged the public to contract insurance only through authorised insurers or insurance brokers and invited citizens to report unauthorised financial intermediation or insurance policy marketing to the SBS, reiterating it will continue to combat informal activities in the systems it supervises.
