The Central Bank of Nepal held a one-day discussion seminar in Kathmandu on 2082 Kartik 24 to mark the 110th birth anniversary of late Dr Yadav Prasad Pant, a former Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank and former Finance Minister, focusing on his role in shaping Nepal’s modern economy and economic policymaking. Finance Minister Rameshwar Prasad Khanal highlighted Pant’s contribution to laying the foundations of Nepal’s modern economy and strengthening links with the international sphere, describing him as a multi-dimensional figure active across monetary and fiscal policy, planning, diplomacy and politics. Governor Prof. Dr Bishwanath Paudel recalled structural reforms initiated during Pant’s leadership, including issuance of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 banknotes, establishment of the Banking Development Fund, and efforts to expand access to banking services, alongside progress in relations with institutions such as the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank; the seminar also featured a working paper on Pant’s contributions and a short documentary prepared by the Dr. Pant Research and Development Foundation, Nepal.
