The Brazil Securities Commission (CVM) published its 2026 annual guidance for independent auditors with active registrations, covering registration, audit execution and documentation, investment funds and assurance of sustainability-related financial information. Extending its recent clarification of the sustainability disclosure framework, the circular states that reports disclosed for fiscal years beginning on or after Jan. 1, 2026, must receive reasonable assurance from a CVM-registered independent auditor. Limited assurance remains required for information relating to fiscal 2025. The circular provides instructions for using the Infoaudi registration system and maintaining auditor records. Drawing on supervisory and enforcement work, it also addresses auditor independence and incompatibilities, team composition and rotation, audit reports, documentation and quality control. Fund-related guidance covers verification of the existence, backing and measurement of receivables and related assets, as well as assessments of whether funds qualify as investment entities.
