The Hong Kong Monetary Authority published a warning that Hong Kong Interbank Clearing Limited has identified a fraudulent website, hkfps.life, falsely claiming to be connected to HKICL and the Faster Payment System. The site presents itself as a "Buyer Online Protection" service for FPS transactions and is designed to obtain users' personal information and banking details. According to the notice, the website offers purported buyer refunds, unauthorised transaction reporting and online transaction support, then asks users to provide document numbers, identification photos and phone numbers for so-called real-name verification in exchange for a cash reward. It also seeks bank name, account number and account holder name to fund and withdraw from a virtual wallet via FPS, and directs users to fraudsters posing as customer service staff. HKICL said the site has no affiliation with it, noted that it does not directly provide FPS services to individual members of the public or normally contact them proactively, and pointed users to its official websites while urging the public to treat suspicious communications with caution and report suspected fraud to the police.
