The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has issued an alert following a DBS Bank (Hong Kong) Limited press release about fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens that have been reported to the HKMA. The HKMA reminded the public that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, nor will they request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS, including via embedded hyperlinks. Individuals who provided personal information or conducted transactions via the fraudulent sites or screens were advised to contact the bank and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force’s Crime Wing Information Centre.
