The National Bank of Georgia reported that it has completed the modernization of the country’s real-time gross settlement and clearing systems, advancing the payments agenda it previously outlined. Speaking at a Swift payments forum for the Caucasus and Turkey in Tbilisi, President Natia Turnava said the upgraded infrastructure fully complies with ISO 20022, enabling faster and more reliable payments, better data quality and stronger international interoperability. An instant payment system is planned to become operational by the end of 2026. Turnava framed the upgrade as part of efforts to support cross-border payments and regional financial links as trade expands along the Middle Corridor. The new infrastructure is also intended to provide a foundation for innovative digital services and deeper interoperability with regional and international partners.
