Thailand Office of Insurance Commission has launched the first pilot of its Insurance DNA initiative in Nonthaburi, a training and outreach programme for condominium juristic persons, housing estate managers and residents on insurance, risk management and disaster response in urban communities. The programme frames insurance as a practical risk management tool for dense urban housing, where natural disasters, accidents and other unexpected events can cause concentrated losses, and it promotes broader coverage across management entities, project operators, co-owners and residents. Nonthaburi was presented as a pilot area because past losses from the 2011 floods and recent earthquake impacts on condominiums, homes and other high-rise buildings illustrate the risks facing urban communities. Sessions covered underwriting suited to current exposures, including cover aligned with actual property values and newer assets such as electric vehicle charging stations, along with claims procedures, document collection, damage assessment, loss surveys and policy conditions. The Office of Insurance Commission described Nonthaburi as the first model area for the Insurance DNA condominium and housing estate programme and said it will expand the initiative to other areas nationwide.
