The National Bank of Slovakia’s Bank Board approved two decrees revising the information and documentation required for bank licensing and for certain prior-approval proceedings under the Banking Act, with both measures taking effect on 1 March 2025. One decree updates the elements of an application for authorisation as a bank or foreign bank branch, aligning Slovak requirements with Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2022/2580 and Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2022/2581 and removing duplication by retaining only elements required in Slovakia. It also modifies the application elements and required documents for third-country foreign banks seeking to operate in Slovakia via a branch, and repeals the previous NBS decrees from 2011 and 2018 on the same topic. A second decree amends NBS Decree No 6/2010 on applications for NBS prior approval, reflecting changes linked to Act No 248/2024 on certain obligations and powers in the field of crypto-assets and adding requirements including documents submitted by the person responsible for AML/CFT compliance in bank conversion and cross-border conversion procedures, additional elements for natural-person applicants, and expanded beneficial owner identification information in annexes for qualifying holding approvals. The Bank Board also approved notification of issuance of a EUR 10 silver collector coin commemorating the 950th anniversary of the Benedictine abbey in Hronský Beňadik, due to go on sale in March 2025.
