The Intergovernmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa has announced that its 44th Technical Commission and Plenary meetings will take place in Monrovia, Liberia, from November 17 to 21, 2025. The main agenda includes follow-up reports from the second round of mutual evaluations for Mali, Niger, Guinea and Sierra Leone, alongside discussions on regional anti-money laundering and counterterrorist financing priorities. The meetings will also consider updates to the typology report on money laundering, terrorist financing and proliferation financing risks linked to trade in GIABA member states and the adoption of an Operational Manual for member states' Financial Intelligence Units and other competent bodies. The twice-yearly meetings bring together technical experts from member states to address threats and implementation challenges in anti-money laundering and counterterrorist financing frameworks. The mutual evaluation follow-up process is intended to assess the implementation and effectiveness of laws, regulations and other required measures, verify whether necessary measures have been fully put in place, and help member states close gaps against international standards. Other agenda items include the Working Group on Risks, Trends and Methods, the Policy Review Group, a closed-door Regional Forum of Financial Intelligence Units, a special session led by the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Centre, the election of the bureau of the presidency of the Technical Commission, and the Director General's activity report. The opening ceremony is scheduled for November 20, 2025. GIABA will also mark its 25th anniversary in Monrovia on November 21, 2025.
