The Malta Financial Services Authority participated in a Madrid business meeting organised by Malta’s Embassy in Spain with the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations to support closer Malta–Spain collaboration in financial services and international engagement, including in third-market regions. Alongside the event, the MFSA delegation held bilateral meetings with Banco de España and Spain’s Directorate-General for Insurance and Pension Funds to exchange supervisory practices, discuss regulatory reforms in Malta and at EU level, and strengthen coordination between the authorities. At the business meeting, remarks were delivered by Malta’s Minister of Finance Clyde Caruana and Alicia Varela, Director General of International Trade and Investment at Spain’s Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism. MFSA Chief Executive Officer Kenneth Farrugia addressed the balance between effective regulatory frameworks and enabling innovation and growth, and Christopher P. Buttigieg, Chief Officer Supervision, presented on Malta’s reforms, the MFSA’s supervisory approach and plans to further strengthen supervision.
