The Brazilian Superintendence of Private Insurance (SUSEP) and the Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA) have signed a technical cooperation agreement to design, implement and operate the Insurance Innovation Laboratory (LabSeg), focused on research and development of innovative solutions for the insurance market with an emphasis on advanced mathematics. The initiative is intended to combine SUSEP’s supervisory expertise with IMPA’s capabilities in mathematical modelling and artificial intelligence (AI) to develop tools that enhance insurance-sector regulation and supervision. LabSeg’s workstreams cover decision-support technologies for regulation and supervision, data processing and modelling, innovation in supervisory and regulatory processes, the use of AI to optimise processes, development of technical solutions and the promotion of sustainability in the insurance sector. The laboratory will involve specialists from IMPA, including through IMPATech and the Centro PI, alongside SUSEP technical staff, with planned use of advanced algorithms and machine learning to analyse large datasets, identify patterns and trends, anticipate risks, improve decision-making and support faster responses to crises.
