The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued an alert following Chong Hing Bank Limited’s report of fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens related to the bank. The HKMA reminded the public that banks will not send SMS or emails containing embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS, including via embedded hyperlinks. People who have provided personal information or carried out transactions via the fraudulent sites or screens are advised to contact the bank using the details in Chong Hing Bank’s press release and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force’s Crime Wing Information Centre.
