The Indonesia Financial Services Authority said at OJK Banking Forum 2026 that it, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs and the national banking industry had agreed to step up efforts against scams and online gambling through a safer and more trusted digital financial ecosystem. The forum produced a declaration centered on stronger bank information technology governance, tighter risk management, better consumer protection, stronger detection of suspicious transactions and broader cross-sector coordination to protect the public and preserve the integrity of the financial system. For banking supervision, the Financial Services Authority highlighted three main workstreams: stronger regulation, stronger risk-based supervision and closer coordination in handling accounts indicated as linked to online gambling. Up to May 2026, it recorded 2.8 million refusals to enter into business relationships with prospective customers, 51.2 thousand terminations of existing customer relationships linked to suspected online gambling, and 32,454 accounts blocked after Enhanced Due Diligence. The authority also pointed to the Indonesia Anti-Scam Centre as an existing interagency mechanism, reporting 608,167 cases received, more than 1 million reported accounts identified, 557,751 accounts blocked and nearly IDR 200 billion returned to victims. Separately, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs said it had handled more than 6.7 million pieces of online gambling content across digital platforms by July 2026 and stressed that access blocking must be accompanied by cutting off the related flow of funds.
