The Indonesia Financial Services Authority, Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation and Statistics Indonesia published the 2026 National Survey of Financial Literacy and Inclusion, showing that Indonesia’s financial literacy index rose to 69.57 percent from 66.64 percent in 2025, while the financial inclusion index increased to 93.61 percent from 92.74 percent. Both measures exceeded the government’s 2029 targets of 69.35 percent and 93 percent, respectively. The survey was expanded to 75,000 respondents across all 514 regencies and cities in 38 provinces, compared with 10,800 respondents across 120 regencies and cities in 2025. The results identified persistent gaps for rural residents, people aged 15-17 and 51-79, those with lower educational attainment, and groups including farmers, students and people not working. Islamic financial literacy and inclusion stood at 43.07 percent and 13.24 percent, respectively, compared with 69.57 percent and 93.53 percent for conventional finance. Among account holders, 62.51 percent knew their deposits were insured, but only 46.31 percent recognized the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation, while just 12.47 percent of relevant insurance customers knew about policyholder protection. Financial literacy and inclusion programs will prioritize the lower-scoring groups. The Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation also plans to shift from broad-based outreach toward targeted and measurable education differentiated by audience, message, channel and location, including early education on the Policyholder Protection Program.
