The Superintendency of Banks of the Dominican Republic has launched a guide on users’ financial health and well-being as part of a broader initiative to prevent overindebtedness and improve conduct throughout the credit relationship, from initial offers to debt collection. The guide advises consumers to assess whether credit is necessary, review their repayment capacity, understand product terms and costs, compare alternatives and read contracts carefully before signing. The initiative follows a July 2026 circular urging financial intermediaries to strengthen debt collection practices and avoid conduct that could infringe users’ rights or dignity. Institutions must also comply with Dominican Institute of Telecommunications requirements governing collection communications, including permitted contact times and frequency limits.
