The Insurance Supervision Institute of Mozambique (ISSM) reported that it hosted the 22nd General Assembly of the Association of Lusophone Insurance Supervisors (ASEL) in Maputo on 17 September 2025, where Mozambique assumed the association’s presidency following the election of its governing bodies. The meeting covered approval of ASEL’s report and accounts and its activity plans, alongside elections to the association’s corporate bodies. Discussions among Lusophone insurance and pension supervisors also covered recent market and supervisory developments, with a focus on improving financial inclusion, the use of artificial intelligence, establishing an ASEL advanced training centre, launching a members’ newsletter, and designing projects to benefit the association. ISSM Chair Ester dos Santos José took over the presidency from the Macau Special Administrative Region, and tributes were paid to Portugal’s Insurance and Pension Funds Supervisory Authority Chair Maria Margarida Corrêa de Aguiar and Monetary Authority of Macau Administrator Wilson Fong. ASEL’s 23rd General Assembly is scheduled to take place in 2026 in São Tomé and Príncipe as part of the association’s rotating annual meetings.
