Mexico’s National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Users of Financial Services (CONDUSEF) published complaint statistics for Yucatán covering January to May 2025, reporting 3,083 complaints from financial services users, up 10.1% compared with 2024. The state accounted for 2.7% of complaints nationwide and the amount disputed totalled MXN 87.5 million, a 5.3% increase year on year. Most cases were processed through CONDUSEF’s electronic case-handling channel (69.7%), with 14.7% handled via the collection-agency registry process (REDECO) and 15.6% through other procedures. Credit cards, debit cards and the special credit report were the most frequently cited products (51.3% combined); leading drivers included unrecognised online purchases, failure to update credit histories and abusive collection practices, together representing 27.0% of complaints. Commercial banks generated 52.9% of complaints, followed by insurers (13.8%) and credit reporting agencies (12.8%); within banking, 34.9% related to older adults and 39.9% were linked to potential fraud, mainly unrecognised purchases. CONDUSEF reiterated that its procedures are free and can be initiated through its online channels, including the electronic complaint portal and REDECO.
