The Egypt Financial Regulatory Authority and the Egypt Healthcare Authority signed a memorandum of understanding on the sidelines of Africa Health ExCon 2026 to strengthen institutional cooperation on insurance and financial inclusion and to support the development of the healthcare system. The agreement is aimed at supporting implementation of the universal health insurance system, improving financing mechanisms and financial sustainability linked to it, and deepening integration between nonbank financial activities and the medical sector. The cooperation will cover the study and development of complementary health insurance mechanisms, sustainable financing models for health services, and financial and insurance products tied to healthcare. It also includes the use of financial technology, insurance technology, artificial intelligence and data analytics to improve service delivery and operating efficiency, alongside joint research and the exchange of studies, indicators and statistics subject to applicable legislation and data confidentiality rules. In related remarks at the event, the authority linked the initiative to its broader regulatory work under the 2024 Unified Insurance Law, including the first-time regulatory framework for healthcare program management activity through third-party administrators within nonbank financial services.
