Greece’s Ministry of National Economy and Finance announced that Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis will chair European counterparts’ discussion on innovation and digitalisation at the informal Eurogroup and ECOFIN meetings. In remarks on arrival in Copenhagen, he outlined the policy themes expected to feature in the meetings. He pointed to agenda items ranging from the introduction of the digital euro to the economic impact of geopolitical developments. Referring to the Draghi report one year after its publication, he argued for a higher level of EU ambition, including closer cooperation in strategic areas such as digital infrastructure (including telecommunications) and the simplification and modernisation of public procurement in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and the green transition to support innovation-led growth. Pierrakakis is due to chair the innovation and digitalisation discussion on 20 September 2025.
